Anne/Sound/Object Appropriation/Simulated Feeling

Ooh those 'old time' sounds...
I am new to the design world. Er well, the formally educated and analytic side of the design world...
I suppose I work largely and currently most passionately with sound, but I work in many different media and am one of them 'intermedia/interdisciplinary folk' so far...
1st semester, 2nd year.
Sound... recorded sound and containment
recorded sound and aesthetic
recorded sound and culture
creation of recorded sound and
the creation of container to audibly emit sound....
This Phonograph CD Player is an idea concieved of by designers Yong Jieyu and Ama Xue Hong Bin for 'Yanko Design'. (With a slogan 'Form Beyond Function' and a title phrase reading 'Modern Industrial Design News')
I was originally searching images of phonographs, gramophones, turntables.... and this design popped up. Interestingly enough it was also given as a two day workshop, by the designers, and taught how to turn an old portable cd player into a 'familiar nostalgic form of a phonograph. The design seeks [to] transport the user back to the golden age of phonographs in early 1900's where sound broadcasting had a magical feel.'

  1. Thank you. The nice thing about this is that it restores listening to a communal focalpoint. That is a critical distinction to the individuated headset, and an important issue in sonic arts: Is there user-participation and how do mechanisms build in expectations for interactivity?
