An image of workers, seemingly a simple enough gesture of piety and diligence. But when used by BP it suggests that the company has a 'hands-on' approach to solving a problem. But this disaster is not so easily managed by manual power. It is worth thinking about the ways the image is a retro production relying on earlier twentieth century photography by Lewis Hine (Men at Work, 1932).
Note the context: The same image and advertisement ran all week in The New York Times.
